ABOUT THE ARTIST

Born and raised in the New York area, Mimi Wohlberg has lived and worked not far from her roots most of her life. A graduate of NYU with a degree in Speech and Hearing Therapy, it was not long before design called to her. She returned to school, receiving a degree in Interior Design from Parsons School of Design and truly found her calling. She has traveled extensively and regularly incorporates her experiences abroad into her artistic palette.

Artist Statement

My work begins with a kernel of an idea – a photograph, a sketch, a thought- and progresses as I find the right medium, the right shapes, and the right colors to bring it to life.

Fabric and color come naturally to me after many years as an interior designer. Expressing what I see in the world around me into the mediums of fiber art and quilting was a natural progression.

I began quilting over 30 years ago using traditional quilt patterns and motifs, but I soon felt the need to expand into abstract expression of the world around me. New materials and mediums are constantly broadening my vocabulary for expression. In the last number of years, my work has developed further to include mixed media art and alcohol inks, as yet another unique form of expression.
